Dear Friends,
Obesity is one of the most significant and rapidly growing drivers of the global burden of cardiovascular disease (CVD), contributing to earlier onset of disease, increased multimorbidity, and rising health system costs worldwide. Once considered a challenge primarily in high-income countries, obesity now affects all regions and populations, yet it remains insufficiently addressed within cardiovascular prevention and care frameworks.
Held on the margins of the 79th World Health Assembly, this side event will explore the urgent need to better integrate obesity within cardiovascular health strategies. Discussions will focus on strengthening clinical leadership, advancing system-level responses, and translating global evidence into practical, country-level action to improve prevention, risk assessment, and long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
Bringing together global leaders, policymakers, clinicians, and experts, the session will highlight how coordinated approaches, spanning clinical care, public health, and policy, can address the complex drivers of obesity. It will also showcase real-world examples, including Australia’s experience in developing a Clinical Consensus Statement on Obesity and CVD, and explore how such models can be adapted and scaled across diverse health system contexts.
