Raised cholesterol affects 39% people worldwide. On 1 June, WHF published the Position Paper titled Improving Prevention and Control of Raised Cholesterol, an innovative call to action that aims to drive action towards achieving better prevention, detection, treatment and control of high cholesterol. This paper includes the testimonies of people living with raised cholesterol to shed light on the actual impact this risk factor has on their day-to-day routine.

Taking place in Mombasa, Kenya, on 22 November and also online through global and regional webinars between October-November, the Summit will tackle timely policy issues surrounding heart disease and obesity.

The 74th World Health Assembly produced more than 30 resolutions and decisions on diabetes, patient safety, and social determinants of health, among others. WHF led the charge on rheumatic heart disease, with a number of key Member States calling for a Global Action Plan on RHD.

WHF was also one of just five organizations to deliver a new type of "constituency statement" on emergency preparedness and response, giving COVID-19 and circulatory health a special prominence in the debate.

WHF Member Global Heart Hub has launched a patient-led COVID Response Campaign aimed at saving lives and reducing disability during the coronavirus pandemic. This international initiative, supported by WHF, the European Society of Cardiology, the International Atherosclerosis Society, FH Europe and other national associations has reached patient organizations and advocates taking part from all over the world.       

WHF Member Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute recently published an article on the INCREASE study, which is the largest double-blind placebo controlled randomized study in group 3 pulmonary hypertension (PH) to date. The paper shows that the results of the study herald a new era in the management of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) complicated by PH.    

Global Heart has published a paper, co-authored by WHF Emerging Leaders Abhishek Sharma and Shiva Raj Mishra, highlighting critical gaps in Nepal’s health system capacity to offer basic health services to people living with CVD and diabetes. This study provides evidence of limited access to cardiovascular and diabetes care in both Nepal’s public and private sectors due to low availability and poor affordability of essential medicines and diagnostic tests. 

Applications are now open for the 2021-2022 eLearning courses of the Health Promotion Division at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). The courses started in 2011 as a capacity-building initiative aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of key concepts in health promotion and their application into programmes, policies and interventions in India. Applicants have the flexibility to study at their own pace while maintaining their current job or academic commitments.

High cholesterol contributes to over a third of coronary heart disease burden. Hosted by the National Heart Foundation of Australia in partnership with WHF, this webinar will explore the latest evidence around screening & management of high cholesterol for the reduction of CVD risk. 

Observed every year on 11 July, World Population Day (WPD) seeks to focus attention on the urgency of population issues, including their relations to the environment and development. Last year, WPD focused on the COVID-19 pandemic and how to safeguard the health and rights of women and girls.  More info on this year's theme and messages will be coming soon on the United Nations official page. 

World Hepatitis Day takes places every year on 28 July bringing the world together to raise awareness of the global burden of viral hepatitis. This year, the theme is ‘Hepatitis Can’t Wait’, which will highlight the need to accelerate hepatitis elimination efforts, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.The hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is associated with an increased risk of CVD.
