What is World Heart Day?
Every year, on 29 September, World Heart Day brings together individuals, families, communities, and governments around the world to fight cardiovascular disease and empower people to take better care of their hearts.
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the world’s leading cause of death, claiming 18.6 million lives each year. World Heart Day highlights the actions that individuals can take to prevent and control CVD. By raising awareness and educating people about risk factors, such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet and physical inactivity, at least 80% of premature deaths from heart disease and stroke can be avoided.
Why should you support this campaign?
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted an urgent need to find new and innovative ways to connect people to heart health, particularly in lower resource settings and communities.
