Rheumatic heart disease affects 39 million people in the world, mostly children and young adults.
Help us educate children and parents on this preventable heart condition.
Colours to Save Hearts is a WHF programme that educates children, parents and teachers on rheumatic heart disease (RHD), including the link between a sore throat and RHD, how to recognise symptoms and what to do when they first appear. The programme aims to:
- Raise awareness about RHD among children in Mozambique using WHF educational colouring books.
- Educate teachers and parents to detect the first signs of strep throat.
- Train health workers on RHD prevention.
- Support the capacity of local hospitals for much-needed surgeries to repair or replace damaged heart valves.
Mozambique has an estimated 3% incidence of RHD – one of the highest rates among school-aged children in Africa. With your support, we can lower this number. Join our fight against RHD.
